Description

Lots of medium to large size companies using MS Project have multiple project managers, planning dozens of projects, and using sometimes hundreds of resources working to all of these projects.Communication between the project managers and the resources is a difficult issue, and can be improved considerably by using the Project Server.

Resources need to be informed about the tasks to be performed and about the dates when these tasks need to be performed. Project Web Access is a simple tool to inform all resources about the planned work. Resources dispose of different views to check tasks, dates, duration, work and other relevant information. They are also able to link documents, risks and issues by using windows sharepoint services to the tasks assigned to them.

Registration of actual work performed by the resources is the key information for project managers to track project progress. Based on this information the project manager can adjust the planning of the running projects to keep them on track. Project Web Access offers the possibility for resources to register on a timesheet view the hours spend to each task. The project manager can than easily import this information into the project.

As project managers need to assign resources to their projects, they need to have a view of the availability of the resources. Using the Project Server Web Access they can assign resources to tasks with a correct knowlegde of skills and availability of all enterprise resources.

Company executives need to have an overall view of running projects. Portfolio Analyzer is a tool to be used in setting priorites in the execution of projects.
